About this release

Overview

Bridge is the file browser built for people whose folders are full of things the operating system's own browser cannot show properly. It renders real previews of photos, raw files, vectors, layered documents, video, audio, fonts and 3D assets, so you are looking at the content rather than a generic icon. For anyone whose work is a large pile of source files across many formats, it is the tool that makes that pile navigable.

Metadata is the backbone. Bridge reads and writes the full set of embedded information, keywords, ratings, labels, copyright, camera data and custom fields, and it can apply that information across a whole selection at once. Filters and collections then let you pull up every five star image, everything shot on a particular lens, or everything tagged for a client, gathered from across many folders without moving a single file.

The batch tools are what turn it from a browser into a production step. Batch rename with a structured naming pattern across hundreds of files, apply a metadata template on import, run an image processor to output a whole folder to a delivery format and size, and stack related shots together. It hands raw files to Camera Raw for a develop pass and passes selections into the rest of the suite, which is why it sits at the front of so many workflows.

Changed in this build

Version 16.0.6.9

  • Faster thumbnail and preview generation on very large folders.
  • Improved metadata handling for recent camera bodies and raw formats.
  • Batch rename gains additional token types for structured naming.
  • Collections panel reorganised with quicker filtering across sources.
  • Better performance browsing network volumes with many files.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Go offline before starting.
  2. Extract the archive to a local drive.
  3. Disable real time protection.
  4. Run setup as administrator and select your languages.
  5. Let the install complete and close the installer.
  6. Launch Bridge once to build its cache, then re-enable protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Keep the preview cache on a fast drive. Cache location is the biggest factor in browsing speed on a large library.
  • The cloud sync component is removed. Local browsing works exactly as expected.
  • Camera Raw is used for the raw develop handoff. Install it alongside if it is not already present.
