Version 6.43.8 · Tonec Inc. · Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 · ranked #5 in the library
A download accelerator that splits every file into parallel streams, resumes a transfer that died overnight, and catches media out of a browser tab the moment it starts playing.

About this release
Overview
IDM sits between your browser and the server and takes over anything you click. Instead of one connection pulling a file down at whatever the server feels like giving you, it opens up to sixteen segments against the same file and reassembles them on completion. On a connection that is faster than any single stream will use, the difference on a large archive is not subtle.
The other half of the value is recovery. Connections drop, servers reset, laptops sleep, and a browser download that dies at ninety percent starts again from zero. IDM keeps the segment map on disk and resumes exactly where it stopped, including after a reboot. For anyone pulling multi-gigabyte installers over an unreliable line, that alone is the reason it stays installed.
Browser integration handles the rest. The extension catches downloads automatically, a floating panel appears over video players offering to grab the stream, and the scheduler queues a batch to start at a set time and hang up or shut down when it finishes. Site grabber walks a page and pulls every file matching a filter, which is how you take a whole gallery or document set in one action.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Dynamic segmentation
Files split into up to sixteen parallel connections, with segments reallocated on the fly as some finish early. No fixed block sizes that leave one slow stream holding everything up.
Resume on anything
Lost connection, server reset, power cut or reboot, the queue picks up where it left off. Segment state is written continuously rather than at checkpoints.
Browser and media capture
Integration for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera. A download panel appears over embedded players so streaming media can be pulled at the quality you choose.
Scheduler and queues
Build queues, set a start time, throttle bandwidth during working hours, and have the machine hang up or shut down when the queue empties.
Site grabber
Point it at a page and pull everything matching a rule, whole directories or filtered by extension, following links to a chosen depth.
Categories and automatic filing
Downloads sort themselves into folders by type on completion, with per-category destination paths and post-processing commands.
