Adobe Lightroom Classic

Version 15.4.1 · Adobe Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #9 in the library

A catalogue based raw workflow for photographers who shoot in volume, where importing, culling, developing and exporting a few thousand frames is one continuous process rather than five separate programs.

About this release

Overview

Lightroom Classic keeps your photographs where you put them and tracks them in a catalogue. That distinction matters: files stay in your own folder structure on your own drives, and the catalogue holds the previews, the metadata, the collections and every edit you have made. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is moved without you asking, and the whole library remains portable between machines.

The develop module is entirely non-destructive. Every adjustment is an instruction stored against the file rather than a change written into it, so a raw frame can be reworked years later from the original sensor data. Exposure, tone curve, colour grading, HSL, detail, lens corrections, transform, masking and calibration are all there, and the mask engine can select a subject, a sky, a background or a specific colour range and then subtract other masks from it.

Where it earns its place is at volume. Import presets apply metadata, keywords and a develop preset on ingest. Synchronise pushes one frame's settings across a whole selection. Smart collections gather images by rule as you work. Export presets write a web set, a print set and a client proof set in one action, each with its own sizing, sharpening and watermark. A wedding or an event that produced four thousand frames becomes a manageable evening.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Catalogue based library

Folders, collections, smart collections, keywords, flags, colour labels and star ratings, with search across all of it and previews that stay available when the drive is disconnected.

Non-destructive raw develop

Full raw processing for every current camera, with edits stored as instructions so the original file is never rewritten.

AI masking

Select subject, select sky, select background, select objects and select people with per-person body part refinement, then combine and subtract masks freely.

Batch operations

Sync settings across a selection, auto sync while you work, copy and paste develop settings, and apply presets on import.

Lens and perspective corrections

Profile based lens correction, chromatic aberration removal, defringing, and guided upright transforms for architectural work.

Export, print and book modules

Export presets with sizing, colour space, output sharpening and watermarking, plus a full print layout module with soft proofing.

Changed in this build

Version 15.4.1

  • Faster catalogue open and preview generation on libraries above one hundred thousand images.
  • Improved denoise quality on high ISO frames with better retention of fine texture.
  • New raw profiles added for recently released camera bodies.
  • Masking panel reorganised so mask groups can be renamed, reordered and duplicated.
  • Tethered capture stability improved for several camera models.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Back up any existing catalogue file before installing over a previous version.
  2. Go offline.
  3. Extract the archive to a local drive.
  4. Disable real time protection.
  5. Run setup as administrator and complete the install.
  6. Open Lightroom, let it upgrade the catalogue if prompted, then re-enable protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Catalogue upgrades are one way. Once a catalogue is opened in this version, the older version cannot read it.
  • Keep previews on a fast drive. Preview generation is the single biggest speed factor on a large library.
  • The cloud sync component is removed. Local catalogues work exactly as expected.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it read raw files from my camera?
If the body is not brand new, yes. Very recent releases may need a profile that arrives in a later build.
Can I move my catalogue to another machine?
Yes, copy the catalogue file, the previews folder and your image folders, keeping the relative structure.
Is this the same as the cloud version?
No. Classic is the desktop catalogue application, which is the one photographers with local storage want.
