Adobe XD
Version 61.0.12.1 · Adobe Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #42 in the library

About this release
Overview
XD is built around artboards that represent screens. You lay out an interface with vector shapes, text and imported assets, arrange the artboards across an infinite canvas, and the whole flow of an application is visible at once. The file stays small and the application stays fast even with a hundred screens in it, which is the practical difference between this and using a general purpose graphics package for the same job.
Components are the reusable half. Build a button, a card or a navigation bar once, make it a component, and every instance updates when the master changes while still allowing per instance overrides for text and state. Component states cover hover, pressed and disabled without duplicating artwork, and the responsive resize behaviour keeps a layout sensible when an artboard is stretched to a different screen size.
Prototyping happens in the same file rather than a separate tool. Drag a wire from an element to a destination artboard, choose the transition, and the flow is clickable in preview immediately. Auto animate interpolates between two artboards that share element names, which produces convincing motion without building an animation by hand. The developer handoff view then exposes measurements, colours, text styles and downloadable assets from the same document.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Artboard based screen design
Lay out every screen of an application on one canvas, with artboard presets for common device sizes and a fast, low memory renderer behind it.
Components with states and overrides
Reusable elements that update everywhere from a master, with per instance text and image overrides and built in hover, pressed and disabled states.
Responsive resize and stacks
Constrain elements so a layout adapts when the artboard changes size, and stack items so adding content pushes the rest along automatically.
Repeat grid
Build one list row and drag to repeat it, then paste a set of text or images and have them distribute across the repeated items in order.
Prototyping with auto animate
Wire elements to destination artboards with transitions, and interpolate between two artboards sharing element names for smooth motion without manual animation.
Developer handoff
A specification view exposing spacing, sizes, colours, text styles and exportable assets straight from the design file.
Changed in this build
Version 61.0.12.1
- Faster canvas rendering on documents with several hundred artboards.
- Component state editing reworked so states can be duplicated and renamed without breaking existing instances.
- Improved import fidelity from vector and layered raster documents produced in the other suite applications.
- Prototype preview now retains scroll position when you return from an artboard edit.
- Export presets extended with more density options for multi resolution asset sets.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network.
- Extract the archive.
- Disable real time protection.
- Run setup as administrator.
- Let the installer complete and close it.
- Open the application once to confirm it starts without asking for an account, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The cloud document and coediting features are removed. Files are saved locally and shared as files.
- Plugins from the online panel are not available in this build. Anything already installed locally continues to work.
- Keep the updater disabled, an update reinstates the account requirement.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Can it open design files from other tools?
- Common interchange imports work. Complex nested components from other applications may need rebuilding.
- Does the prototype export as a shareable link?
- No, the online sharing service is removed. Preview locally or record the prototype as a video.
- Is it still worth learning?
- As a fast local interface design and prototyping tool, it does the job well and opens far quicker than the alternatives.
