About this release

Overview

Photoshop Elements is built for the person who has thousands of photographs and no interest in learning a layer mask. It ships as two applications that work together: the Organizer, which catalogues everything on your drives and tags it by person, place and event, and the Editor, which opens in three modes depending on how much control you want. Quick mode is a handful of sliders, Guided mode walks you through a specific result one instruction at a time, and Expert mode exposes layers, masks, adjustment layers and the selection tools for anyone who wants them.

The Guided edits are the part people actually keep coming back to. Each one is a short sequence with a preview at every stage, covering things that would otherwise mean a tutorial: replacing a dull sky, removing an object from a background, turning a photograph into a duotone or a watercolour, building a panorama out of a handheld sweep, opening closed eyes from another frame in the same burst, and producing a depth of field effect on an image shot with everything in focus. Each one ends on a normal document you can keep editing in Expert mode if you want to go further.

Underneath the friendly surface it is still a real raster editor. Layers with blending modes, adjustment layers, layer masks, the healing and clone tools, content aware fill, Camera Raw for raw files, colour management for print output, and a text engine with styles and warping are all present. This build is the complete desktop package with both applications, every language pack and the full effects and content library installed locally, so nothing is pulled from a server and nothing asks for an account on launch.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Organizer with face, place and event tagging

Catalogue everything on your drives without moving a file. People recognition groups faces across years of photographs, places pin images on a map from their embedded coordinates, and events cluster a shoot by time so a holiday becomes one stack rather than four hundred loose frames.

Three editing modes in one application

Quick for slider work, Guided for a step by step walkthrough of a specific result, and Expert for the full layer stack, masks, selections and adjustment layers. Switching mode never rasterises or discards what you have already done.

Guided edits with live preview

Sky replacement, object removal, panorama merge, depth of field, duotone, photo text, watercolour and a long list of others, each broken into numbered steps with a preview before you commit to any of them.

AI assisted selection and subject isolation

Select Subject and the refine brush handle hair, glasses and cluttered backgrounds well enough that a background swap on a family portrait takes a minute rather than an evening of manual masking.

Camera Raw and non-destructive adjustments

Raw files from most consumer and enthusiast bodies open in the raw dialog with exposure, white balance, lens correction and detail control, then land in the editor as smart objects with the raw settings still live.

Slideshows, collages and print layouts

Build a slideshow with music and transitions, drop a set of frames into a collage template, or lay out a print sheet with a chosen paper size and colour profile, all from inside the Organizer without a separate application.

Changed in this build

Version 26.3.0.82

  • Guided edit collection extended with several new sequences, including a rebuilt sky replacement that matches the foreground colour temperature to the new sky.
  • Subject selection quality improved on fine hair and semi transparent edges, with fewer manual correction strokes needed on portraits.
  • Organizer catalogue open and search speed improved noticeably on libraries above fifty thousand images.
  • Photo Reels groups a burst or a sequence automatically so the best frame can be picked without scrolling through near duplicates.
  • New artistic effect presets added, each applied as its own layer so the strength can be dialled back afterwards.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Disconnect from the network before you start. The installer does not need it and activation is cleaner without it.
  2. Extract the archive to a folder on a drive with at least 18 GB free.
  3. Temporarily disable real time protection for the duration of the install.
  4. Run the setup executable as administrator and pick your language on the first screen.
  5. Let the installer place both the Editor and the Organizer, then close it rather than launching from the finish screen.
  6. Open the Editor once, confirm the welcome screen reports the full version, then re-enable protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • The Organizer keeps its catalogue separate from your image folders. Back up the catalogue file as well as the photographs or your tags and albums are lost on a rebuild.
  • Do not install this alongside a previous Elements release. The two share the catalogue location and will fight over it on first launch.
  • Leave the update check disabled. An update replaces the activated components and reverts the application to trial behaviour.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Is this the same as Photoshop?
No. It shares the engine and the file format but the interface, the guided workflow and the Organizer are specific to Elements. Files save as PSD and open in Photoshop normally.
Does it handle raw files from my camera?
Most consumer and enthusiast bodies are covered by the bundled raw profiles. A very recently released camera may need a profile that has not shipped yet.
Is there a subscription check?
No. It runs fully offline and never asks for an account.
