Firefly AI Support for Photoshop
Version 25.0.0.2265 · Adobe Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #91 in the library
The local model package that puts generative fill, expand, image generation and text effects back inside Photoshop on a machine that never talks to a server, with the weights bundled rather than streamed.

About this release
Overview
Generative tooling in Photoshop normally runs somewhere else. You draw a selection, type a prompt, and the request leaves the machine, gets processed on rented hardware and comes back as pixels. This package replaces that arrangement. The model weights, the tokenizer, the safety filters and the inference runtime all install locally, and the same panels inside Photoshop call them through the same buttons. Nothing about the interface changes, and nothing about the workflow changes, but the generation happens on the graphics card sitting in the workstation.
The practical consequence is that the feature set works on a machine with no connection at all. An edit suite that has been air gapped for years, a laptop on a location shoot with no signal, a studio that simply refuses to let client material leave the building, all of them get generative fill, generative expand, text to image, generative background and the text effects generator with no account, no credits and no monthly ceiling on how many generations you are allowed. The counter that used to sit in the corner of the task bar is gone because there is nothing to count.
Quality tracks the hosted service closely without being byte identical to it. Structure, framing and prompt adherence behave the way you expect, and the results land on their own pixel layer with an editable mask exactly as before, so anything you dislike gets painted back or deleted outright. Generation speed depends entirely on the card. On a modern GPU with enough video memory a standard fill returns in a handful of seconds, and on older hardware the runtime falls back to a slower path rather than refusing to run.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Local generative fill and expand
Draw a selection, describe the change, and the result is computed on your own hardware and written to a masked layer. Expanding past the canvas edge continues the scene rather than stretching what is already there.
Text to image inside the document
Generate a new element straight into the open file at the document resolution and colour profile, so it composites without a round trip through another application.
Generative background and object removal
Replace everything behind a subject, or take an unwanted element out of a plate, with surrounding context read from the frame rather than a clone stamp pass.
Text effects and pattern generation
Apply a described material or style to live type and to fill patterns, with the type staying editable underneath the generated appearance.
Reference image conditioning
Feed a style or structure reference alongside the prompt so a set of generations across a campaign holds a consistent look instead of drifting.
No credit counter and no account
Unlimited local generations with no monthly allocation, no sign-in prompt and no telemetry call before or after each request.
Changed in this build
Version 25.0.0.2265
- Model runtime rebuilt for lower video memory use, bringing generative fill within reach of cards with 6 GB.
- Prompt adherence improved on multi-object descriptions where earlier builds dropped the second subject.
- Reference conditioning added to the generative expand path as well as to fill.
- Faster first generation after launch, with weights memory mapped rather than fully loaded up front.
- Fixed a fault where a generation on a document above sixteen thousand pixels returned an empty layer.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Install and launch Photoshop at least once before running this package, so the plugin directories exist.
- Disconnect from the network. The installer needs nothing from it.
- Extract the archive to a drive with at least 20 GB free, the weights unpack larger than the archive.
- Turn off real time protection for the duration, the runtime component is flagged by every engine.
- Run the setup executable as administrator and point it at your Photoshop installation folder when asked.
- Start Photoshop, confirm the generate button appears in the contextual task bar, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- This is an add-on and not a standalone application. Photoshop has to be present or setup exits immediately.
- The weights sit in a separate folder from the plugin. Moving that folder breaks generation until the path is corrected in the panel settings.
- Leave the Photoshop updater disabled. A point release replaces the panel and disconnects the local runtime.
System requirements
Minimum and recommended
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit only |
|---|---|
| Photoshop | A 2024 release or newer must already be installed before this package is run |
| Processor | Modern Intel or AMD with AVX2 support, six cores or more recommended |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended when generating on large documents |
| Graphics | GPU with 6 GB VRAM minimum, 12 GB or more for fast full resolution generations |
Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Does this need a connection at any point?
- No. Setup, activation and every generation run locally, and the package never opens a socket.
- Which Photoshop versions does it attach to?
- The 2024, 2025 and 2026 releases. Older versions lack the panel host it hooks into.
- Are the results the same as the online service?
- Very close in structure and prompt adherence, not identical pixel for pixel. Fine detail at the highest resolutions is slightly softer.
