About this release
Overview
This is a maintained build of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, carrying every update released for the platform afterwards, integrated driver packs for storage and network hardware that the original media never knew about, and a multilingual pack so the interface language can be chosen at install time rather than being fixed by the media.
The reason anyone still installs this is compatibility. Industrial control software, laboratory instruments, machine tool controllers, older audio and video capture hardware and a long tail of legacy business applications were written for this platform and were never ported. The machines running them are frequently older hardware with no chance of running anything newer, and replacing the equipment is not on the table.
Beyond the rollup, the build includes updated runtime components, current archive and codec support, and a set of small system utilities that make it usable rather than merely bootable. Installation is the classic sequence with no key stage, and the system arrives activated. It is delivered as a single x86 bootable ISO which can be written to a disc or, with the right tool, to a USB stick for machines that will boot from one.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Back up everything on the target machine, this wipes the system partition.
- Write the ISO to a disc, or to a USB stick with a tool that supports this platform's boot layout.
- Boot from the media and choose your interface language at the language step.
- Delete the existing system partition and install to the free space.
- Let setup complete and reboot. No key is requested.
- Verify the system properties page shows an activated state before installing anything else.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- This platform has had no security updates for many years. Never connect a machine running it to the open internet.
- If it must be on a network, isolate it on its own segment with no route outward.
- Modern browsers and most current software will not install. Treat it as a fixed purpose machine.

Answered before you ask
- Why would anyone install this now?
- Legacy hardware and software that has no replacement. Instrument controllers and industrial machines are the usual reason.
- Does it support modern hardware?
- Barely. Drivers for recent chipsets do not exist for this platform. It is for old machines.
- Is 64-bit available?
- This build is x86 only, which is what almost all software for the platform targeted anyway.
