About this release
Overview
Resolume Arena is the tool used to run visuals at a show. Content is arranged as clips in a grid of layers and columns, triggered live from the interface, a controller or incoming timecode, and composited in real time with blend modes, transitions and effects. It is built for playing rather than editing: everything is designed to be changed while output is running, without a render step and without stopping what the audience is seeing.
The Arena tier adds the output side that makes it usable on real installations. The advanced output stage handles soft edge blending across multiple projectors, warping onto curved and irregular surfaces, slice based mapping onto separate architectural elements, and masking to keep light off surfaces that should stay dark. A screen setup can be built, saved and recalled, which matters when the same rig is deployed repeatedly on tour.
Around the core it handles the practical realities of live work. Audio analysis drives parameters from the incoming music, so effects and speed react to the material rather than being animated by hand. Timecode input synchronises playback with a show controller or lighting desk, DMX control exposes parameters to a lighting operator, and multiple display outputs are managed independently. Live camera input, screen capture and network video sources can all be used as clips alongside prepared media.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Clip based live performance
Layers and columns of clips triggered live with blend modes, transitions and per-clip effects, all editable while the output is running.
Projection mapping and warping
Soft edge blending across several projectors, warping onto curved and irregular surfaces, slice based mapping and masking, saved as recallable screen setups.
Audio reactive parameters
Analyse incoming audio and drive effect parameters, playback speed and opacity from it, so visuals respond to the material rather than following a fixed animation.
Timecode and DMX control
Synchronise to an incoming timecode signal for scripted shows, and expose parameters over DMX so a lighting operator can drive them from the desk.
Live input sources
Camera input, screen capture and network video streams usable as clips alongside prepared media, with the same effects and compositing applied.
Effect chain and parameter automation
A deep effect library chained per clip, per layer or on the master output, with every parameter automatable and mappable to a controller.
Changed in this build
Version 7.27.1.15990
- Output stage reworked with faster warping on multi projector setups at high resolution.
- New effects added to the generator and distortion categories.
- Improved playback stability on high bitrate clip sets across long unattended runs.
- Controller mapping panel redesigned with a searchable parameter list.
- Reduced latency between audio input analysis and parameter response.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network before running setup.
- Extract the archive to a drive with plenty of free space for media.
- Pause real time protection during installation.
- Run setup as administrator and complete the install.
- Open the application, configure your display outputs, then build and save the screen setup.
- Convert your clip media to the optimised playback format, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Convert clips to the optimised playback format before a show. Compressed delivery formats stutter under live triggering.
- Save the screen setup separately from the composition so a rig configuration can be recalled on any project.
- Disable display scaling and power management on the output adapter before a run. Both cause frame drops mid-show.
System requirements
Minimum and recommended
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit only |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i7 or AMD equivalent or better for multi output work |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended for large clip sets at high resolution |
| Graphics | Dedicated GPU with 6 GB VRAM minimum, more for multiple high resolution outputs |
| Storage | 10 GB for installation plus fast storage for clip media |
Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- What does Arena add over the base edition?
- The advanced output stage: soft edge blending, warping, slice mapping, masking and DMX control.
- Can it drive several projectors?
- Yes. Multiple outputs are managed independently with blending across the overlaps.
- Does it need a connection during a show?
- No. Everything runs locally and no component checks anything at any point.
