VEGAS Pro 2026
Version 2026.0.0.143 · Boris FX · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #97 in the library
A timeline editor with an unusually direct way of working, where trimming, crossfading and effect assignment happen by dragging on the clip itself rather than by opening panels, and the whole thing stays fast on modest hardware.

About this release
Overview
VEGAS has always worked differently from the other timeline editors, and people who like it like it precisely for that. Tracks accept any media type rather than being typed as video or audio, dragging one clip onto another creates a crossfade automatically, trimming and fading are done with handles on the clip corner, and effects are chained per event, per track, per bus or per project from the same dialog. Nothing has to be committed or rendered before you keep working.
Audio is a genuine strength rather than an afterthought, which is a legacy of where the application came from. It has a full multitrack audio environment with real time effect chains, bus routing, envelopes on everything and support for professional plugin formats, so a mix can be finished on the same timeline as the picture rather than being sent out to a separate application and brought back.
The current release adds a set of machine learning driven tools that take the tedious jobs off the timeline: object tracking that follows a subject so a blur or a text tag sticks to it, background removal without a green screen, style transfer, smart masking that propagates a shape across frames, and an automatic colour match across shots. Output covers the full modern codec set with hardware acceleration on encode and decode, and the render queue keeps working while you keep editing.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Direct manipulation timeline
Trim, fade, crossfade and adjust opacity by dragging on the clip. Tracks are untyped so any media lands anywhere without conversion.
Per event, track, bus and project effect chains
Assign an effect chain at any level of the hierarchy and reorder it freely, with everything previewing live rather than requiring a render.
Full multitrack audio
Bus routing, real time effect chains, automation envelopes on every parameter and professional plugin format support for finishing the mix in place.
Machine learning assisted tools
Object tracking, background removal without a green screen, smart masking propagation, style transfer and automatic shot to shot colour matching.
Nested timelines
Drop a project inside another project as a single event and keep it editable, which is how a long form job stays organised across a team.
Hardware accelerated encode and decode
NVENC, Quick Sync and AMF used for both playback and export, with delivery presets for the common destinations.
Changed in this build
Version 2026.0.0.143
- Object tracker rewritten for better retention through partial occlusion.
- Colour grading panel consolidated with scopes docked alongside the wheels.
- Faster project load and lower memory use on timelines with several thousand events.
- New transition and title collections added to the bundled content.
- Fixed a fault where a nested project could lose its audio bus assignments on reopen.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Take the machine offline first.
- Extract the archive to a local drive.
- Suspend real time protection until you have finished.
- Run setup as administrator and complete the standard install.
- Apply the included activation step before launching the application.
- Open VEGAS, set the video preview device in preferences, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The bundled plugin collections install separately from the main application. Run them after the main setup.
- Leave the update check off. An update replaces the licensed executable.
- If preview stutters, switch the preview device between the GPU and software once to force redetection.
