About this release

Overview

vMix is a live production switcher that runs entirely in software. Capture cards, USB cameras, NDI sources over the network, video and audio files, still images, web pages, screen captures, remote callers and title graphics all become inputs in the same list, and you cut, mix, wipe or stinger between them into a programme output. Preview and programme run as separate buses with a proper transition bar, so it works the way a hardware switcher works and anyone who has stood behind one is immediately at home.

Around the switcher sits everything a live show actually needs. The audio mixer has per-input faders, delay, EQ, compression, gating and bus routing with audio follow video and solo monitoring. Chroma key and colour key handle green screen with spill suppression. Multiple overlay channels put lower thirds, bugs and picture in picture over the programme without disturbing the cut. Instant replay records continuous camera feeds and lets you mark, trim and roll back a moment at variable speed while the show carries on.

The Pro edition is what this listing covers, and it removes the limits that matter on a real production. Input count goes to the maximum, four independent recorders run at once, eight overlay channels are available instead of the smaller set, the full instant replay system with multiple camera angles is unlocked, and multiple simultaneous streaming destinations can run alongside local recording. Output goes out to streaming services, to SRT and RTMP endpoints, to NDI for other machines on the network, and to an external monitor or a capture card for a projector or a broadcast chain.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Software vision mixing

Preview and programme buses with cut, fade, wipe, zoom and stinger transitions, driven by mouse, keyboard shortcuts or an external control surface.

Wide input coverage

Capture cards, USB and IP cameras, NDI and SRT sources, media files, images, titles, web browsers, screen capture and remote guests, all as ordinary inputs.

Full audio mixer

Per-input faders with delay, EQ, compression and gating, bus routing, audio follow video, solo monitoring and headphone mix separate from programme.

Chroma key and overlays

Green screen keying with spill suppression and edge control, plus multiple independent overlay channels for lower thirds, bugs and picture in picture.

Instant replay

Continuous recording of multiple camera angles with marking, trimming and variable speed playback of a moment while the live show continues.

Recording and streaming together

Multiple simultaneous recorders and streaming destinations running at once, with independent quality settings per destination.

Changed in this build

Version 28.0.0.42

  • Lower latency on NDI sources across a congested network, with better recovery after a dropped frame.
  • Improved chroma key edge handling on uneven lighting and on subjects with fine hair detail.
  • Instant replay panel reorganised, with faster marking and clearer angle selection during a live show.
  • Additional streaming destination presets added, and per-destination bitrate control made independent.
  • Reduced CPU use on multi-camera productions where hardware encoding is available.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Update the graphics driver and any capture card drivers before you begin.
  2. Go offline before running the installer.
  3. Disable real time protection for the duration.
  4. Run setup as administrator and complete the standard install.
  5. Apply the included activation step before launching the application for the first time.
  6. Open vMix, confirm the title bar reports the Pro edition, then re-enable protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Record and replay buffers belong on a separate fast drive from the system disk. This is the single biggest cause of dropped frames on an otherwise capable machine.
  • Block the application in your firewall for anything other than your streaming destinations. A licence check reverts it to the trial tier.
  • Test the whole show, including the transition to streaming, well before you go live. A live production is the wrong place to find a capture card driver problem.

System requirements

Minimum and recommended

Operating systemWindows 10 version 21H2 or newer, or Windows 11, 64-bit
ProcessorQuad core minimum for HD, six cores or more for multi-camera 4K production
Memory8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended, 32 GB for heavy replay and multiple recorders
GraphicsDedicated GPU with 4 GB VRAM strongly recommended, hardware encoder for streaming
Storage1 GB for the application plus fast dedicated storage for recording and replay buffers

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

How many inputs can it handle?
The Pro edition removes the input ceiling of the lower tiers. In practice the limit is the processor, the GPU and the storage rather than the software.
Can it record and stream at the same time?
Yes, multiple recorders and multiple streaming destinations run simultaneously with independent settings.
Does it work with NDI from other machines?
Yes, NDI sources on the network appear in the input list, and vMix can output NDI back for another machine to use.
