About this release
Overview
Acrobat Pro is what you install when a PDF stops being something you merely open. Editing text directly in a finished document, reflowing a paragraph, swapping an image, reordering and rotating pages, splitting a two hundred page report into sections, merging a folder of files into one deliverable, all of it happens without going back to the source application.
Conversion is the part most people use daily. PDF to Word, Excel or PowerPoint keeps tables as tables and lists as lists rather than dumping a wall of text boxes. The OCR engine handles scanned pages in dozens of languages and produces a searchable layer over the original image, which turns a scanned archive into something you can actually find things in.
On the compliance side it covers what an office actually needs: redaction that removes the underlying content rather than drawing a black box over it, sanitisation that strips metadata and hidden layers, accessibility checking against PDF/UA with a tagging editor, PDF/A archival output, password and certificate security, and a comparison view that highlights every change between two revisions of a contract.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Edit text and images in place
Click into a paragraph and type. Fonts are matched from the embedded set, paragraphs reflow, and images can be replaced, cropped or repositioned without leaving the document.
Convert to and from Office formats
Export to Word, Excel and PowerPoint with structure preserved, and create PDFs from almost any file type through the printer driver or the direct converters.
OCR for scanned documents
Recognise text in scans across a wide language set and produce a searchable, selectable layer while leaving the original page image visible.
Forms and signatures
Detect fields on a static form automatically, add calculations and validation, then collect signatures with an audit trail and certificate based signing.
Redaction and sanitisation
Permanently remove content, apply patterns across a whole document, and strip metadata, attachments, hidden layers and comments in one pass.
Compare and combine
Show every textual and visual difference between two versions side by side, and merge mixed file types into a single paginated PDF with bookmarks.
Changed in this build

- Comparison view now groups changes by type so text edits, image swaps and page moves can be reviewed separately.
- Reduced installer size with the unused cloud storage connectors removed.
Installation

- Uninstall Adobe Reader first if it is present, the two conflict over file associations.
- Go offline.
- Extract the archive.
- Disable real time protection.
- Run setup as administrator and let it complete.
- Launch Acrobat, dismiss the first run screen, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The cloud storage connectors are removed. Local and network files work normally.
- Automatic updates are disabled. Leave them that way.
- Set Acrobat as the default PDF handler from within preferences rather than from Windows settings, it sticks better.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Does OCR work offline?
- Yes, the recognition engine and its language data are installed locally.
- Can it sign with a certificate from a smart card?
- Yes, if Windows can see the certificate, Acrobat can sign with it.
- Does redaction really remove the text?
- Yes, applied redaction deletes the underlying content stream, not just the visible rendering.
