About this release
Overview
Office 2016 Professional Plus is the release people reach for when the machine is not new. It installs on systems that the later suites refuse outright, it runs comfortably in four gigabytes of memory, and it asks for no account at any point. For a workshop computer, a reception desk, a machine driving a specific piece of equipment or an old laptop that only has to produce documents, it is still the sensible target.
The application set is complete: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and OneNote. Excel here carries the Power Query stack under its original data tab name, the full data model with relationships and measures, and the chart types added in this generation including waterfall, treemap and box plot. Anyone maintaining a workbook full of inherited macros will find the VBA object model exactly where it has always been.
Both architectures are inside one archive and chosen during setup. The 64-bit build is the right pick on a modern machine with a large workbook to open, and the 32-bit build remains the one that keeps a decade old ActiveX control or a legacy database driver working. Interface and proofing languages are selected at install time rather than downloaded separately afterwards.

Pick interface and proofing languages at install time from the bundled set rather than fetching them afterwards.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Remove any existing office suite completely, including leftovers from a subscription install.
- Disconnect from the network before you start.
- Extract the archive and open the folder for the architecture you want.
- Disable real time protection for the duration of the install.
- Run the setup executable as administrator and pick your applications and languages.
- Open Word once, check the account page reports an activated product, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Architectures cannot coexist. A 32-bit and a 64-bit suite will not install side by side on the same machine.
- Leave automatic updates disabled. A servicing channel update resets the activation state.
- If Access will not open a very old database, install the compatibility components from the extras folder in the archive.
