About this release
Overview
Reader is the application every PDF is tested against. If a document renders correctly here, it renders correctly everywhere, and that is why it stays installed on machines that otherwise use a browser for casual viewing. Complex documents with transparency, layers, embedded fonts, spot colours and form logic display the way the person who produced them intended, which browser viewers and lightweight alternatives regularly get wrong.
Beyond viewing, it covers the commenting side properly. Sticky notes, highlights, strikethroughs, freehand drawing, stamps and text callouts all attach as real annotations that any other compliant viewer can read, with a comment list that filters by author and status. For document review across a team that is enough, and it means the reviewers do not each need a full editor.
This is the complete offline installer rather than the small web bootstrapper. That distinction matters because the bootstrapper pulls in a browser extension, a cloud connector and a background update service, none of which are required to read a document. The build here installs the viewer, the commenting tools, the form filling engine and the language packs, and leaves the rest out.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Close every browser window first so the file association step completes cleanly.
- Extract the archive.
- Run the installer as administrator, no protection changes are needed for this one.
- Decline the file association prompt if you want another application to keep handling PDFs.
- Open the preferences and turn off the updater under the updates section.
- Open a document to confirm rendering, then you are finished.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- This is the viewer, not the editor. It will not edit page text or convert documents to other formats.
- The background update service is disabled in this build. Leave it that way or it will reinstall the components that were removed.
- If a document asks for a password to open, that is the document's own protection and nothing in this build changes it.

- Can it edit a PDF?
- No. Filling forms, commenting and signing are supported. Editing page content requires the full editor.
- Why install it when browsers open PDFs?
- Complex documents, forms and print accuracy. Browser viewers get all three wrong regularly.
- Does it phone home?
- The cloud components are not installed and the updater is disabled, so no.
