About this release
Overview
Office 2021 Professional Plus is the successor to the 2019 release and the right target if you want the newer Excel function set without moving to a subscription. Dynamic arrays are the headline: a formula that returns multiple values spills into the cells beside it, and the functions built on that behaviour, XLOOKUP, FILTER, SORT, SORTBY, UNIQUE, SEQUENCE and RANDARRAY, replace whole categories of awkward legacy constructions.
The interface picked up a visual refresh with rounded window corners, a neutral colour theme that follows the system, and a redesigned tab strip, but nothing moved. Anyone comfortable in the previous release will find every command where they left it. Word gained better co-authoring behaviour and modern comments, PowerPoint added recording tools with presenter video, and Outlook picked up a faster search index.
As with the previous perpetual release, the whole professional line-up is included: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher and OneNote, with both 32-bit and 64-bit builds in the same archive and every proofing language available at setup. The applications never change under you once installed, which is exactly the point.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Remove every existing Office installation, including any subscription version and its leftovers.
- Disconnect from the network.
- Extract the archive and open the folder matching the architecture you want.
- Disable real time protection.
- Run the setup executable as administrator and choose your applications and languages.
- Open Excel once and confirm the account page reports an activated product, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- A subscription install and a perpetual install cannot coexist. Remove one before installing the other.
- Keep feature updates disabled. Servicing channel updates will reset the activation state.
- The 64-bit build is the correct choice unless a legacy 32-bit add-in forces your hand.
