About this release
Overview
SPSS is the package that a great deal of published social science, health research and market analysis was run through, and its appeal is that a competent analysis does not require writing code. The data editor is a spreadsheet with a variable view underneath it holding types, labels, value labels, measurement levels and missing value definitions, and the menus construct the analysis while writing the equivalent syntax into the log.
That dual nature is the reason it survives in teaching and in research alike. A student clicks through a regression dialog and learns what the procedure is called, then reads the generated syntax and learns to write it. A researcher writes a syntax file once and reruns the whole analysis on updated data without touching a menu. The output viewer collects tables, charts and notes into a navigable document that exports to word processors and spreadsheets with the formatting intact.
Coverage across the modules is wide. Descriptives, crosstabs and chi square, t tests and analysis of variance with post hoc comparisons, linear and logistic regression, factor and cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, reliability, nonparametric procedures, survival analysis with Kaplan Meier and Cox regression, complex samples, mixed models, and a bootstrapping facility across most of them. Data preparation handles merging, aggregating, restructuring between wide and long, weighting and multiple imputation on missing data.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network.
- Extract the archive to a local drive.
- Disable real time protection.
- Run setup as administrator and choose your interface language.
- Apply the included licence component before launching the application.
- Open the application, run a descriptives procedure to confirm it works, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The licence component has to run after installation and before first launch, not the other way round.
- The optional programmability extensions for external scripting install separately and are not required.
- Do not install over a different major version. Remove the previous one first.
