IObit Driver Booster Pro

Version 13.6.0.438 · IObit · Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 · ranked #24 in the library

Scans the machine for outdated device drivers and installs current ones from a large database, with a restore point taken before every change so a bad driver is one click away from being undone.

About this release

Overview

Driver Booster looks at every device in the system, matches it against a database of current drivers, and offers to update the ones that are behind. That covers graphics cards, chipsets, audio, network adapters, printers, storage controllers and the long tail of peripherals whose manufacturer stopped shipping updates through the usual channels years ago.

The safety side is what makes it usable rather than reckless. A system restore point is created before any batch of installs, individual driver backups are stored so a single device can be rolled back without touching the rest, and the driver database is version aware, so it will not push a build that is known to be a problem on your hardware. If a display driver goes wrong, there is a documented way back.

Beyond the driver list it handles the supporting pieces a fresh install needs: runtime libraries, DirectX components, and the game and framework redistributables that half of everything on the machine depends on. There is also a device fix section that resolves common problems such as a missing audio output, an adapter that stopped after an update, or a resolution stuck below what the panel supports.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Whole system driver scan

Enumerates every device, including ones Windows Update ignores, and reports how far behind each driver is.

Automatic restore points and backups

A restore point before each session and a per-driver backup so a single bad install can be reverted individually.

Large driver database

Coverage across major and minor vendors including graphics, chipset, audio, network, storage and peripherals.

Game ready and runtime components

Installs the redistributable runtimes and graphics components that games and creative applications expect to find.

Device troubleshooting

Fixes for common device failures such as missing audio, a dead network adapter after an update, or an unsupported resolution.

Scheduled scanning

Run scans on a schedule and download updates in the background, with installation left under your control.

Changed in this build

Version 13.6.0.438

  • Database expanded with a large batch of recent graphics and chipset drivers.
  • Faster scanning on machines with many connected peripherals.
  • Improved rollback reliability for display drivers that fail during installation.
  • Reduced background resource use when idle.
  • Interface reworked with a clearer separation between updates and optional components.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Create a manual restore point before you start, on top of the ones the program makes.
  2. Extract the archive.
  3. Disable real time protection during setup.
  4. Run the installer, declining any bundled extras it offers.
  5. Run the included activation step before launching the program.
  6. Open Driver Booster, confirm the pro features are available, then re-enable protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Update graphics drivers one at a time rather than in a batch. If one fails you want to know which.
  • Turn off the automatic update option. Unattended driver installs are how a working machine becomes a broken one.
  • For a graphics card, the vendor's own driver package is still the better choice when it is available.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Is it safe to update every driver at once?
It works most of the time, but update display and storage drivers separately so a failure is easy to isolate.
Can I roll back a single driver?
Yes, per-driver backups are kept and restored individually from the rescue centre.
Does it need a connection?
For the online database, yes. Offline driver packs are available for machines with no network.
