About this release

Overview

This tool exists because installing the office suite properly means writing a configuration file by hand and running a command line deployment utility against it. C2R Install puts a window over that whole process. You choose the product generation, the update channel, the architecture, the interface language and the individual applications, and it constructs the configuration and runs the deployment for you. What normally takes a careful half hour of documentation reading becomes four drop-downs.

The Lite build in the same archive is the same engine with the interface trimmed to the choices most people actually make. It is the one to use when you want the current generation, the current channel and the standard application set, without stepping through options that do not apply. The full build is there when you need an older generation, a specific channel or a deliberately reduced install.

Activation is handled at the end of the deployment rather than as a separate operation, and the utility reports the resulting state in its own log so there is no guessing about whether it took. It also covers the awkward jobs: converting an existing install between channels, adding a single application to a suite that is already in place, and removing a broken install completely when the official uninstaller refuses.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Version, channel and architecture selection

Pick the generation, the update channel and 32 or 64-bit from drop-downs. The configuration is built for you and the deployment runs against it.

Per application install

Tick only the applications you want. A Word and Excel only install is three clicks rather than a hand written exclusion list.

Lite build for the common case

The same engine with the interface reduced to the current generation and the standard set, for when you do not need the options.

Channel conversion in place

Move an existing installation from one update channel to another without uninstalling and starting over.

Complete removal

Strip a broken or partial install out entirely, including the registration and cached state the official uninstaller leaves behind.

Activation at the end of deployment

The licensing step runs as part of the same operation, with the resulting state written to the log.

Changed in this build

Version 7.7.7.7

  • Product and channel lists refreshed to match the current release names and build numbers.
  • Faster deployment start by caching the manifest between runs instead of fetching it each time.
  • Removal routine extended to clear registration left by an interrupted install from another tool.
  • Log window made scrollable and copyable, which matters when a deployment fails and you need the error code.
  • Fixed a case where the language selection was ignored on a machine with a non English system locale.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Disable real time protection before you start, the activation stage is flagged by every engine.
  2. Extract the archive to a folder you control, not to a temporary directory.
  3. Run the executable as administrator.
  4. Choose the generation, channel, architecture, language and the applications you want.
  5. Start the deployment and leave it alone, it takes a while and the progress window can look stalled.
  6. Open one of the installed applications, confirm the account page reports an activated product, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Remove any existing office installation first unless you are deliberately using the channel conversion function.
  • The tool downloads the install source unless one is already cached in the folder beside it. Keep the folder if you are deploying to several machines.
  • Leave automatic updates disabled afterwards. A channel update resets the state the tool applied.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

What is the difference between the two builds?
Same engine. Lite hides the options you rarely need and defaults to the current generation and standard application set.
Can it add one application to an existing install?
Yes, run it against the existing installation and tick the additional application rather than reinstalling.
Does it work offline?
Only if the install source is already cached in the folder. The deployment itself needs the source files present one way or another.
