About this release

Overview

Kutools is an add-in that installs two extra tabs into the Excel ribbon. Everything in it is a task that Excel can technically do already, but only through several dialogues, a helper column, or a macro you would have to write. Combining every worksheet in a folder of workbooks into one sheet is a button. Splitting one sheet into separate workbooks by the value in a column is a button. Reversing text in a range, converting formulas to values across a whole book, or removing every blank row in a selection are all buttons.

The commands group into recognisable areas. Range and cell tools cover transposing, flipping, transforming ranges between table and list layouts, and combining or splitting cells with a chosen delimiter. Workbook and worksheet tools handle bulk renaming, sorting sheets, copying a setup across many sheets and creating a navigable index. Editing tools cover advanced find and replace across files, super filter with multiple criteria saved as a set, and a navigation pane that lists workbooks, sheets, columns and named ranges in one sidebar.

It is aimed squarely at people who spend their working day in spreadsheets and have accepted a certain amount of manual repetition as normal. The formula helper collection alone covers date maths, counting by colour, summing visible cells only, and extracting numbers or text out of mixed strings, each one inserted as a proper formula you can inspect afterwards rather than a black box.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Combine and split at the workbook level

Merge every sheet from a folder of files into one workbook, or split a large sheet into separate files by the value in a chosen column, with headers preserved either way.

Range transformation tools

Transpose, flip horizontally or vertically, convert a table to a one dimensional list and back, and reshape a single column into a fixed width grid.

Advanced find, replace and filter

Search across open workbooks at once, replace inside formulas, comments and hyperlinks, and save multi-criteria filter sets for reuse.

Duplicate and comparison tools

Find or highlight duplicate and unique values within a range or between two ranges, and compare two sheets cell by cell with a difference report.

Formula helper library

Dozens of prebuilt formulas for date arithmetic, conditional counting, summing by colour, and text extraction, inserted as real formulas that remain editable.

Navigation pane and workbook management

A sidebar listing every open workbook, sheet, column and named range, plus bulk renaming, reordering and creation of sheets from a list.

Changed in this build

Version 30.60

  • Added a set of operations for working with merged cells that previously required unmerging first.
  • Navigation pane now remembers its width and pinned state per workbook.
  • Faster execution of the combine worksheets command on folders with hundreds of files.
  • New text tools for padding, case conversion by pattern, and removing non-printing characters.
  • Fixed a compatibility issue with the current Excel build that broke a handful of range commands.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Close Excel completely, including any hidden instances, before installing.
  2. Extract the archive and pause real time protection.
  3. Run the installer, matching the architecture of your Office install rather than your Windows install.
  4. Apply the included activation before opening Excel for the first time.
  5. Open Excel and confirm the two extra ribbon tabs are present.
  6. Restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • The bitness of Office is what matters. A 32-bit Office on 64-bit Windows needs the 32-bit add-in.
  • If the tabs do not appear, check the disabled add-ins list in Excel options and re-enable it there.
  • Operations that touch many files are not undoable. Work on copies the first few times.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it work with the subscription version of Excel?
Yes, and with the perpetual releases. It hooks the ribbon rather than a specific version.
Can the commands be undone?
Most single sheet operations can. Anything that writes across multiple files cannot, which is why it warns first.
Does it change my files in any way a colleague would see?
No. It produces ordinary Excel content. Someone without the add-in opens the results normally.
