Nitro PDF Pro Enterprise
Version 26.1.6 · Nitro Software · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #54 in the library
A PDF editor built to feel like the office suite it sits beside, with a ribbon layout that needs no explanation and batch tooling aimed at the volume work of a document heavy office.
Read the installation section below before you start. The order of the steps matters on this release.
About this release
Overview
The design decision behind this one is the interface. It uses the same ribbon layout, the same tab logic and largely the same iconography as the office suite, which means someone who has never opened a PDF editor before can find the edit, convert and combine functions without training. In an office where the alternative is a support call every time a document needs changing, that is the entire justification.
Functionally it is a full editor. Text editing with paragraph reflow, image handling, page organisation across multiple documents, form creation with field logic, text recognition over scans, redaction, comparison between revisions, and security through passwords, permissions and certificates. Conversion runs in both directions with structure preserved, and the printer driver captures output from any application that can print.
The enterprise build adds the deployment and volume side. Silent installation with a configuration file, group policy templates for controlling defaults across a fleet, batch conversion and recognition across folders, and a signing workflow that tracks a document through several signatories with an audit record. None of it depends on an online service in this build, so it runs on a machine that never leaves the internal network.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Familiar ribbon interface
The same layout and logic as the office suite beside it, which removes most of the training cost in a document heavy office.
Full text and page editing
Edit paragraphs with reflow, replace images, and reorder, rotate, split, extract and merge pages across several documents at once.
Two way conversion
Export to word processor, spreadsheet and presentation formats with structure preserved, and create PDFs from any application through the printer driver.
Text recognition in batch
Run recognition over a folder of scanned documents unattended, producing searchable layers across the whole set.
Forms, signing and audit trail
Build interactive forms with field logic, then route a document through multiple signatories with a recorded audit trail.
Deployment tooling
Silent installation with a configuration file and group policy templates for controlling defaults across a fleet of machines.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- How is it different from the other editors here?
- Mainly the interface and the deployment tooling. Functionally the three overlap heavily.
- Does the printer driver work from any application?
- Yes, anything that can print can produce a PDF through it.
- Is the audit trail usable internally?
- Yes, it is recorded in the document itself and does not depend on an external service in this build.
