About this release
Overview
Speed is the first thing anyone notices. PDF-XChange Editor opens large documents, scrolls through image heavy scans and searches across hundreds of pages faster than the applications it competes with, on hardware that is nowhere near new. For anyone whose day involves opening dozens of files to check one thing in each, that difference compounds into real time. The viewer side alone would justify the install, and the editor side is what keeps it there.
The Plus tier is the one worth having because it adds the two things the base editor withholds: creating and editing fillable forms, and the dynamic stamp tooling. Form fields can be detected automatically on a static layout or placed by hand, with text boxes, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns, list boxes, buttons and signature fields, each carrying validation rules, calculation order and JavaScript actions. Exported data comes back as FDF, XFDF or CSV, so a form that goes out to forty people comes back as a spreadsheet rather than forty documents to read.
Around that sits the everyday toolkit: editing text directly in a finished document with font matching and paragraph reflow, replacing and cropping images in place, inserting, extracting, rotating, splitting and merging pages, bookmarks and named destinations, headers, footers, watermarks and Bates numbering, redaction that removes the underlying content, and an OCR engine that turns a scanned archive into something searchable. The annotation set covers highlight, strikeout, sticky notes, callouts, measuring tools, drawing tools and a comment summary that can be printed as its own report.

Fast rendering on large documents
Opens and scrolls through hundreds of pages of scanned material without the pause every other viewer takes, with a search index that returns hits across the whole file quickly.
Direct text and image editing
Click into a paragraph and type. Fonts are matched against the embedded set, text reflows within the block, and images can be swapped, cropped, rotated or repositioned in place.
Form creation and data export
Detect fields on a static form or place them manually, with validation, calculations, tab order and actions, then export collected responses to FDF, XFDF or CSV.
Dynamic stamps and annotations
Stamps that carry the reviewer name, a counter and a time value, alongside the full markup set with a summary view that exports the whole comment thread as a document.
OCR with searchable output
Recognise text on scans across a wide language set and write an invisible searchable layer over the original page image, in batches across a whole folder.
Page assembly and output
Insert, extract, replace, split, merge, rotate and reorder pages, add headers, footers, watermarks and Bates numbering, and export to Word, Excel, image formats or PDF/A.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Close any other PDF application first so the file association step completes cleanly.
- Extract the archive.
- Disable real time protection for the install. The licensing component is flagged routinely.
- Run the installer and choose which components you want, including the OCR language packs you actually need.
- Apply the included licence step before first launch rather than after.
- Open the application, confirm the Plus features are available in the form toolbar, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Leave automatic updates disabled. An update reverts the licence state and puts the trial watermark back on edited output.
- A portable build is included in the archive for use from a stick with nothing written to the machine.
- Only install the OCR languages you need. The full language set adds several hundred megabytes for no benefit.

- What does Plus add over the standard editor?
- Form creation and editing, and the dynamic stamp tooling. Everything else is common to both tiers.
- Does edited output carry a watermark?
- No. With the licence applied, saved documents are clean. An unlicensed build stamps anything that used a paid feature.
- Can it replace the default PDF viewer?
- Yes, set the associations during install or from the preferences panel afterwards. It handles browser preview as well.
