Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D 2027
Version 2027 · Autodesk Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #148 in the library
The civil engineering edition of the drafting standard, where the surfaces, alignments, profiles and corridors are intelligent objects that update each other, so a change to the road design reworks the earthwork and the drawings with it.

About this release
Overview
Civil 3D is the base drafting application with a civil engineering model built on top, and the difference is the same one that runs through the whole intelligent design idea: the drawing understands what it contains. A surface is a real terrain model, not a mesh of lines. An alignment is a road centreline that knows its geometry. A corridor is a road built from that alignment and a cross section that follows it. Because these are connected objects, a change to one reworks the others, so revising a road grade updates the earthwork volumes and the sheets without redrawing them.
The workflow follows how a site is actually engineered. Build an existing ground surface from survey data or a point cloud, lay out horizontal alignments for roads and utilities, design vertical profiles against the existing ground, and generate corridors that model the road surface, kerbs and slopes in three dimensions. Grading objects shape the land to design levels, and the earthwork volumes between existing and proposed ground calculate automatically and update as the design changes.
The output is a coordinated set of engineering drawings that stay tied to the model. Plan and profile sheets generate along an alignment and renumber themselves as it changes, cross sections are cut at intervals with the corridor and volumes shown, pipe and pressure networks model the drainage and utilities with rules based design, and the whole thing exchanges with the mapping and modelling packages a project runs alongside. Survey data, point clouds and mapping all feed the model.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Intelligent civil objects
Surfaces, alignments, profiles and corridors are connected objects, so a change to one reworks the others.
Terrain surface modelling
Build existing and proposed ground from survey data or point clouds, with automatic earthwork volumes between them.
Road corridor design
Model a road in three dimensions from an alignment and a cross section, with kerbs, slopes and surfaces.
Pipe and pressure networks
Rules based design of drainage and utility networks with automatic sizing and conflict checking.
Coordinated plan and profile sheets
Generate engineering sheets along an alignment that renumber and update as the design changes.
Survey and mapping integration
Feed the model from survey data, point clouds and mapping, and exchange with the packages a project runs alongside.
Changed in this build
Version 2027
- Faster surface generation from very large point clouds.
- Improved corridor rebuild performance on long alignments.
- Better pressure network design tools with clearer conflict resolution.
- Enhanced grading tools with more predictable behaviour on complex sites.
- Sheet generation reworked for quicker plan and profile production.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Go offline before starting. The installer is large and will try to reach out.
- Extract the archive to a drive with at least 30 GB free.
- Disable real time protection for the whole process.
- Run setup as administrator and select the country kit for your region.
- Apply the included licensing configuration when prompted.
- Launch the application, confirm it opens without a licensing prompt, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Install the country kit for your region so the design standards and styles match local practice.
- Set the background licensing service to manual so it does not reach out on startup.
- Data references link drawings across a project. Keep the project folder structure together when moving work.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- How is this different from plain AutoCAD?
- The model is intelligent. Surfaces, alignments and corridors are connected objects that update each other.
- Do earthwork volumes update automatically?
- Yes, the volume between existing and proposed ground recalculates as the design changes.
- Does it read regular DWG files?
- Yes, it opens standard DWG, and its drawings open in plain AutoCAD as ordinary geometry.
