About this release

Overview

Fusion 360 covers the whole path from an idea to a manufactured part inside one application. The modelling side is parametric with a full timeline, so every sketch, extrude, fillet and pattern stays editable and a dimension change near the start propagates through everything built on top of it. Alongside that sit direct modelling for working on imported geometry with no history, freeform sculpting for organic shapes, sheet metal with flat pattern generation, and a proper assembly environment with joints and motion.

The manufacturing workspace is what makes it unusual at this level. Toolpath generation covers two and a half through five axis milling, turning, mill-turn, water jet, laser and plasma cutting, and additive manufacturing, with a tool library, stock definition, simulation of the cut with material removal shown, and post processors for a long list of machine controllers. Because it is the same file, a design change regenerates the toolpaths rather than requiring an export and reimport into a separate package.

Simulation and documentation close the loop. Static stress, modal frequency, thermal, buckling and shape optimisation studies run against the model, and the results drive design changes directly. Two dimensional drawings are generated from the model with views, sections, dimensions, tolerances and bills of material, and they update when the model does. Electronics design and rendering workspaces are also present for the projects that need them.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Disconnect from the network before running setup.
  2. Extract the archive to a drive with at least 15 GB free.
  3. Disable real time protection until the install and activation are complete.
  4. Run setup as administrator and let the prerequisites install when prompted.
  5. Close the installer at the end rather than launching from the final screen.
  6. Open the application once, set the local project folder in preferences, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

  • This build works with local project storage rather than requiring an online data store.
  • The updater and sign-in components are removed. It never prompts for an account.
  • Set your local project folder before starting work, otherwise designs land in the default location and are easy to lose track of.
