Autodesk Maya 2027
Version 2027.2 · Autodesk Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #67 in the library
The animation and modelling package that film and games studios build their pipelines around, covering modelling, rigging, animation, simulation and rendering deep enough that a whole production department can live inside it.

About this release
Overview
Maya is the workhorse of high end 3D. Its reach is what sets it apart: polygon and NURBS modelling, a rigging system flexible enough for any creature or mechanism, a character animation toolset that has moved a large share of the visual effects and games work of the last two decades, cloth and hair and fluid simulation, and rendering through Arnold, all in one application. Studios standardise on it because a single file can carry an asset from a modeller through a rigger to an animator without leaving the program.
The part that keeps it in production is that it is built to be driven by a pipeline. Almost everything is scriptable and the whole application can be automated, which is why a facility can wrap it in custom tools that enforce their own conventions. The node based dependency graph underneath the interface means a rig, a deformation or a procedural effect is a network you can inspect and rewire rather than a black box, and that transparency is what lets technical artists build the complex setups a show actually needs.
Animation is where most of its users spend their days. The graph editor, the time slider, the constraint and driven key systems, and a deformation stack that handles skin, muscle and corrective shapes give an animator precise control over performance. This build installs the full application with Arnold, the Bifrost procedural environment and the bundled toolsets present and activated.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Complete 3D toolset
Modelling, rigging, animation, simulation and rendering in one application, deep enough to carry an asset through a whole pipeline.
Character animation
Graph editor, constraints, driven keys and a full deformation stack for precise control over performance and movement.
Rigging and deformation
A flexible joint, constraint and deformer system that handles any creature or mechanism, with corrective and muscle setups.
Simulation
Cloth, hair, fur and fluid simulation built in, with Bifrost for procedural effects such as smoke, fire and destruction.
Arnold rendering
The bundled production renderer for physically based final frames, with interactive preview while you light.
Scriptable and pipeline ready
Almost everything is automatable, which is why studios wrap it in custom tools and standardise their productions on it.
Changed in this build
Version 2027.2
- Faster viewport performance on scenes with dense character rigs.
- Improved Bifrost simulation stability on large destruction setups.
- Animation graph editor gained additional retiming and layering tools.
- Arnold interactive preview refresh made quicker on complex shaders.
- Better USD interchange for assets moving between departments.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network before starting.
- Extract the archive to a local drive with plenty of room.
- Disable real time protection for the whole process.
- Run setup as administrator and install Maya with Arnold and Bifrost.
- Apply the included activation step, then close the installer.
- Launch Maya, confirm it opens with no licence prompt, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The licensing service is neutralised rather than removed. Do not let it update.
- A certified GPU and a current driver matter more here than raw specifications. Update the driver first.
- Custom scripts and shelves from a previous version need migrating manually.
System requirements
