Autodesk Revit LT

Version 2026 · Autodesk · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #215 in the library

The architectural half of building information modelling on its own, producing a coordinated model where plans, sections and schedules all come from the same building rather than being drawn three times.

About this release

Overview

Revit LT is the architecture focused version of Revit. You model walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, stairs and railings as real building elements with materials and parameters, and the drawings come out of the model. Change a wall type once and every plan, section, elevation and schedule that references it updates. That single behaviour is the reason the format took over documentation work, and it is fully present here.

What is left out compared to the full application is the multidiscipline side: no structural analysis, no mechanical, electrical or plumbing systems modelling, no worksharing across a team on a central model, and no in-product rendering of the heavier sort. For a practice doing architectural design and construction documentation on its own, none of that is missed day to day, and the file format is identical so a model can move to the full application later without conversion.

The documentation tooling is the strength. Sheets, title blocks, view templates, annotation families, tags that read parameters off the elements they point at, and schedules that count and total whatever the model contains. Families are the extension mechanism: a door, a light fitting, a piece of furniture or a window is a parametric family with types, and the family editor lets you build your own or adapt one from a library. DWG, DWF, IFC and PDF import and export cover the exchange side with consultants.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Parametric building elements

Walls, floors, roofs, ceilings, stairs, railings, doors and windows modelled with real construction layers, materials and host relationships rather than as lines.

Coordinated documentation

Every plan, section, elevation, callout and schedule is a live view of the model. Edit anywhere and every view carrying that element updates in the same action.

Schedules and quantity takeoff

Build schedules of any element category with filters, sorting, grouping and calculated fields, and export them for costing without recounting anything.

Family editor

Create parametric components with types, constraints, formulas and nested families, or modify the supplied library to match what you actually specify.

View templates and graphic control

Lock line weights, visibility, detail level and phasing per view type so a whole drawing set stays consistent as it grows.

Interoperability

Import and export DWG and DWF for consultants still working in two dimensions, IFC for model exchange, and publish sheet sets straight to PDF.

Changed in this build

Version 2026

  • Improved handling of very large linked models, with faster view opening on sheets containing several links.
  • Toposolid editing gained subdivision and sub-element controls carried over from the full application.
  • Schedule editor now supports conditional formatting rules based on parameter values.
  • PDF export rebuilt with vector output for line work and correct text selection in the resulting file.
  • New annotation options for dimension text overrides and multi-segment leaders.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Disconnect the machine from the network before running setup.
  2. Extract the archive to a drive with at least 40 GB free, the installer expands considerably.
  3. Pause real time protection for the whole process.
  4. Run setup as administrator and choose the content libraries and languages you want.
  5. Let it finish, apply the included activation, and do not launch the application in between.
  6. Open Revit once, confirm it starts without a licensing prompt, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Do not install the desktop licensing service updates afterwards. They replace the component the activation relies on.
  • Model files are forward compatible only. A model opened in this release cannot be reopened in an earlier one.
  • The content library is a large part of the download size. Skip languages you will not use and the install shrinks substantially.

System requirements

Minimum and recommended

Operating systemWindows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit only
ProcessorMulticore with high single thread performance, 3 GHz or faster
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB for models over a few hundred megabytes
GraphicsDirectX 11 capable card with 4 GB VRAM, a workstation class card for large models
Storage30 GB free, SSD required for reasonable model open times

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Can it open models made in the full version?
Yes, though elements from disciplines the LT release does not support come in as read only geometry.
Does it support worksharing?
No. That is one of the deliberate differences. Models are single user files here.
Is the family library the same?
The architectural content is the same. Structural and services families are not included.
