About this release

Overview

Blender covers a range that most studios normally assemble out of four or five separate packages. Hard surface and subdivision modelling, digital sculpting with dynamic topology and multiresolution, UV unwrapping and texture painting, node based shading, a full rigging and animation system with constraints and drivers, physics for cloth, hair, rigid bodies, smoke and fluid, two production renderers, a node compositor and a video sequence editor all sit in the same window and operate on the same scene file. Moving between them is a workspace tab rather than an export.

The two renderers cover opposite ends of the same job. Cycles is a physically based path tracer with GPU acceleration on current cards, used for final frames where light has to behave correctly through glass, skin, volume and bounce. EEVEE is a rasterised engine that renders in near real time in the viewport, which is what makes look development quick and what makes it viable for motion graphics and previsualisation where a frame cannot take four minutes. A scene set up for one largely translates to the other because they share the same material node system.

Blender is genuinely free and open source, so nothing here is patched, cracked or activated. What this package adds is convenience. It is a portable build that runs from the folder without installing, with the configuration and add-on directory kept alongside the executable rather than in your user profile, and with a curated set of the add-ons most people install on day one already present and switched on: node wrangler, extra objects and curves, import and export for the common exchange formats, the retopology and hard surface helpers, and a set of studio HDRIs and matcaps.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Modelling and sculpting in one mesh

Box modelling, subdivision surfaces, modifiers with a live stack, and a sculpting mode with dynamic topology, multiresolution levels and a full brush set. Move between them on the same object without converting anything.

Cycles path tracing renderer

Physically based rendering with GPU acceleration, adaptive sampling, denoising, light and shadow linking, volumetrics, subsurface scattering and full material node graphs.

EEVEE real time renderer

Rasterised rendering fast enough to work in interactively, with screen space reflections, soft shadows, volumetrics and depth of field, sharing materials with the path tracer.

Rigging, animation and constraints

Armatures with inverse kinematics, drivers, custom shapes and bone layers, a graph editor with full curve control, a dope sheet, non-linear animation strips and shape key workflows.

Physics and simulation

Cloth, soft body, rigid body, particles, hair and grooming, smoke and fire, and liquid simulation with baking and cache control, all solved in the same scene.

Compositor, geometry nodes and video editor

A node compositor for finishing passes, a procedural geometry node system for building models from rules, and a video sequence editor with cuts, transitions, strips and colour correction.

Changed in this build

Version 5.2.0

  • Viewport performance improved on scenes with very high instance counts and heavy geometry node trees.
  • New brush handling in sculpt mode with per-brush asset management and a reorganised tool header.
  • Cycles denoising quality improved on low sample counts, particularly on interior scenes with heavy indirect light.
  • Geometry nodes gained additional field types and a clearer socket inspection readout while editing.
  • Faster file load and save on large scenes with many linked libraries and packed textures.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Extract the archive to any folder you like, including a USB stick. There is no installer to run.
  2. Open the folder and run the main executable directly.
  3. On first launch pick your keymap and theme in the splash screen, or load the included studio preset.
  4. Check the add-ons list in preferences to confirm the bundled set is enabled.
  5. Set your render device to GPU compute in preferences if you have a discrete card.
  6. Point the temporary and cache directories at a fast drive before starting simulation work.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Nothing here is patched or activated. Blender is free software and this package is a convenience build, not a bypass of anything.
  • The configuration lives next to the executable, so a portable copy carries your preferences, keymap and add-ons with it between machines.
  • Graphics driver version matters more than card model for GPU rendering. Update the driver before deciding the card is too slow.

System requirements

Minimum and recommended

Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
Processor64-bit quad core with SSE 4.2 support, eight cores or more recommended for simulation and rendering
Memory8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended, 32 GB for heavy sculpting and simulation caches
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB VRAM and current drivers, 8 GB or more for GPU path tracing on large scenes
Storage3 GB for the portable folder plus room for caches, textures and render output

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Do I need to activate it?
No. There is no licence, no serial and no activation step. It is free for personal and commercial work alike.
Will it open files from older versions?
Yes, going back many releases. Files saved here will not open correctly in an older build, so keep a copy if you need to go backwards.
Can it export to formats other packages read?
Yes. FBX, OBJ, glTF, Alembic, USD, STL, PLY, Collada and SVG are all covered in both directions where the format allows it.
