Version 2026.6.905.0 · Cloudflare · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #229 in the library

About this release

Overview

WARP does two related things. It replaces the resolver your machine uses with a privacy focused one that does not log the addresses you look up, and it wraps all outbound traffic in an encrypted tunnel to the nearest edge location on a very large network. The result is that the local network, the coffee shop router and the provider all see an encrypted stream to one endpoint rather than a readable log of everywhere you went.

The performance angle is what makes it different from a conventional tunnel. Rather than routing everything through a distant exit for the purpose of appearing to be somewhere else, it hands traffic to a network with peering almost everywhere and lets it take the good path from there. On a poorly routed connection this is frequently faster than the default, which is not something a traditional tunnel can usually claim.

There is no account, no configuration file and no server list to pick from. Install it, flip the switch, and it runs. Modes include resolver only, which changes DNS without tunnelling, and the full tunnel mode. Split tunnelling excludes specific applications or address ranges so a local printer, a company network or a game still uses the direct route, and a family safe mode filters malware and adult content at the resolver level.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Encrypted tunnel with a single switch

One control turns the whole thing on. No server list, no configuration file, no account creation of any kind.

Privacy focused DNS resolution

Queries go to a resolver that does not log them and are encrypted in transit, which removes the easiest way for a network to see where you are going.

Optimised routing

Traffic enters a very well peered network at the nearest edge and takes a good path from there, which on a badly routed connection is faster than the default.

Split tunnelling

Exclude applications or address ranges so local devices, corporate networks and latency sensitive traffic keep the direct path.

Filtering modes

Optional malware and adult content blocking applied at the resolver level, with no additional software on the machine.

Resolver only mode

Change DNS without tunnelling anything, for cases where you want the privacy of the resolver without the routing change.

Changed in this build

Version 2026.6.905.0

  • Faster connection establishment on networks that block the primary transport, with quicker fallback.
  • Split tunnel rules can now be exported and imported between machines.
  • Improved behaviour on networks that require a captive portal sign-in before allowing traffic.
  • Reduced battery use on laptops when the tunnel is idle.
  • Connection diagnostics panel added with per-hop timing information.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Extract the archive and run the installer as administrator, it needs to install a network adapter.
  2. Accept the driver installation prompt when it appears.
  3. Launch the client and toggle the switch to connect.
  4. Confirm the status shows connected and check your visible address from any address lookup page.
  5. Add split tunnel exclusions for anything on the local network you still need to reach directly.
  6. Set it to start with Windows if you want it permanently on.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • This is not an anonymity tool. It hides traffic from the local network and the provider, it does not make you untraceable.
  • Exit location is chosen by proximity, so it is not usable for appearing to be in a specific country.
  • If a local printer or network share stops responding, add its address range to the split tunnel exclusions.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it cost anything?
No. The free tier is what this is, with no bandwidth cap on ordinary use.
Can I pick a country?
No. It connects to the nearest edge by design, which is the source of the speed benefit.
Will it break my work network?
It can. Add the corporate ranges to split tunnelling, or use the resolver only mode while connected to it.
