CSI ETABS Ultimate
Version 22.7.0.4095 · Computers and Structures Inc. · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #197 in the library
Building analysis and design built around how buildings actually work, with stories, floor systems, shear walls and lateral load cases as first class objects rather than a generic frame model you have to organise yourself.
Read the installation section below before you start. The order of the steps matters on this release.
About this release
Overview
ETABS is a structural analysis and design package written specifically for buildings. The distinction matters in practice: instead of assembling a generic finite element model and imposing a building structure on it, you work with stories, similar story groups, floor diaphragms, columns, beams, braces, shear walls and ramps as objects the program understands. Defining one typical floor and replicating it up thirty stories takes minutes, and a change to that typical floor propagates upward.
The analysis covers what building design actually demands. Static and dynamic cases, modal analysis, response spectrum, time history, P-delta with large displacement, staged construction sequencing, creep and shrinkage effects, foundation springs and soil interaction, and nonlinear cases including pushover analysis for performance based design. Diaphragm behaviour is modelled properly, which is what makes the lateral results usable rather than approximate.
Design runs off the same model. Steel frame, concrete frame, composite beam, composite column, shear wall and slab design all check against the selected code, with results shown as utilisation ratios coloured on the model and expandable into a full calculation trace for any member. Detailed drawings, schedules and quantity takeoffs come out of the same file, and the Ultimate tier includes the detailing module and the full nonlinear analysis capability.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Building specific modelling
Stories, similar story groups, diaphragms, shear walls, ramps and floor systems as native objects, so a typical floor is defined once and replicated with edits propagating through the group.
Complete analysis capability
Static, modal, response spectrum, time history, P-delta, staged construction, creep and shrinkage, soil springs and nonlinear pushover analysis in one solver.
Integrated code design
Steel, concrete, composite beam and column, shear wall and slab design checked against a broad international code list, with utilisation shown directly on the model.
Shear wall and slab design
Wall pier and spandrel design with reinforcement output, and slab design using finite element based strip results rather than approximate coefficients.
Detailing and documentation
Reinforcement detailing, member schedules, section drawings and quantity takeoffs generated from the analysed model rather than redrawn separately.
Interoperability
Import and export with the common building modelling and detailing formats so the analysis model stays aligned with the coordination model.
Changed in this build
Version 22.7.0.4095
- Solver threading improved, cutting run times on tall buildings with many response spectrum cases.
- Additional international design codes implemented for concrete and composite members.
- Shear wall design output expanded with clearer reinforcement layout diagrams.
- Nonlinear pushover setup simplified with guided hinge assignment based on member type.
- Model interoperability updated for the current generation of building modelling formats.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network before running setup.
- Extract the archive to a drive with at least 20 GB free.
- Disable real time protection for the full install and activation sequence.
- Install the bundled runtime prerequisites when prompted, the solver depends on them.
- Run the main setup as administrator and complete the installation.
- Launch once and confirm the licence panel does not appear, then restore protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The licensing service is removed. Nothing runs at startup and nothing calls out.
- Analysis scratch files on large nonlinear runs reach several gigabytes. Set the working folder on a fast drive.
- Interface is English only. Design code coverage is international regardless of interface language.
System requirements
Minimum and recommended
| Operating system | Windows 10 version 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit only |
|---|---|
| Processor | Quad core 3 GHz or better, additional cores reduce solver time directly |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB recommended for tall buildings with nonlinear cases |
| Graphics | OpenGL capable adapter with 2 GB VRAM for model and result display |
| Storage | 15 GB of free space, SSD strongly recommended for analysis scratch files |
Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- How is it different from a general analysis package?
- The model is organised around building structure. Stories, diaphragms and walls are understood objects, which removes most of the setup work on a building model.
- Are the nonlinear tools included?
- Yes. This is the Ultimate tier, which carries the full nonlinear and performance based design capability.
- Can it exchange models with detailing software?
- Yes, through the standard building model exchange formats in both directions.
