D5 Render

Version 2.6.1 · D5 Technology · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #227 in the library

Real time ray traced visualisation for architecture, where the viewport already looks like the final frame and a client walkthrough happens live instead of after an overnight render.

About this release

Overview

D5 Render is a real time renderer aimed at architectural and interior visualisation. It uses hardware ray tracing to produce global illumination, reflections, refraction and soft shadows in the viewport at interactive frame rates, which changes how the work is done. Instead of setting up a scene, launching a render and waiting to see if the lighting worked, you move a light and watch the result converge in a second.

Live sync connects it to the modelling application. Change geometry in the model and the change appears in the render scene with materials and lighting intact, no re-export and no reassignment. Synchronisers exist for the common architectural modelling packages, and standard interchange formats cover anything without a dedicated link. Material assignment persists across syncs, which is the detail that makes it usable on a project that changes daily.

The asset library is a large part of the value. Thousands of models covering furniture, fittings, vegetation, vehicles and people, all with materials already set up, plus a material library with procedural and scanned surfaces. Vegetation and water carry animation, weather and time of day are driven by a sun position and sky model with real atmospheric scattering, and output covers stills, animation paths, panoramas and video at any resolution the hardware will hold.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Real time ray traced viewport

Global illumination, reflections and soft shadows computed live, so the working view is close to the final output rather than a rough approximation.

Live sync with modelling applications

Geometry changes in the model appear in the render scene immediately with materials and lighting preserved, removing the export cycle entirely.

Large built in asset library

Furniture, fittings, vegetation, vehicles, people and decorative objects with materials pre-assigned, plus a procedural and scanned material collection.

Physically based lighting and weather

Sun position and sky model with atmospheric scattering, artificial light fixtures with real photometric behaviour, and weather including rain, snow and fog.

Animation and camera paths

Build camera paths with keyframes and easing, animate objects, weather and time of day, and render sequences at any resolution.

Multiple output formats

Stills, video, panoramas for headset viewing, and depth or object identifier passes for compositing adjustments afterwards.

Changed in this build

Version 2.6.1

  • New denoiser producing cleaner output on interior scenes lit only by indirect light.
  • Vegetation system rebuilt with wind animation and better distribution scattering tools.
  • Material editor gained layered blending with mask inputs.
  • Live sync stability improved on very large models with many linked files.
  • Render queue added so several outputs can be set up and left to process in sequence.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Take the machine off the network before installing.
  2. Extract the archive to a drive with plenty of free space.
  3. Pause real time protection.
  4. Install the application, then the asset library, choosing a fast drive for the library path.
  5. Apply the included activation before launching.
  6. Open the application, confirm the asset library loads, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Graphics card memory is the hard limit here. A scene that exceeds VRAM will not render regardless of how much system memory the machine has.
  • Install the synchroniser plugin for your modelling application separately, it is in the same package.
  • Do not sign into any account inside the application. It validates the licence when you do.

System requirements

Minimum and recommended

Operating systemWindows 10 version 21H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit
ProcessorSix core or better
Memory32 GB recommended, 16 GB is the practical floor for small scenes
GraphicsRay tracing capable GPU with 8 GB VRAM minimum, 12 GB or more for large scenes
Storage60 GB free with the asset library installed, SSD required

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it need an internet connection?
No, once the assets are installed locally. Keep it offline and it runs normally.
Can it render animation?
Yes, camera paths and object animation render as image sequences or video at whatever resolution the card can hold.
How does it compare to an offline renderer?
Speed is not comparable, this is real time. An offline renderer still edges it on very complex caustics and extreme close detail.
