About this release

Overview

The circular problem with a fresh install on unfamiliar hardware is well known: the network adapter has no driver, so the machine cannot reach the internet, so it cannot download the driver for the network adapter. The offline edition solves it by carrying every driver with it. The whole archive lives on the stick, so a machine that has never seen a network gets its chipset, storage, network, audio, graphics and peripheral drivers in one pass.

Detection reads hardware identifiers rather than guessing from a model name, matches them against the bundled archive, and presents a list of what is missing and what is outdated before installing anything. Expert mode is the one to use: it shows exactly which package will be applied to which device and lets you deselect the ones you would rather leave alone, which matters because a storage controller driver is not something to replace casually.

It is a technician tool first. The archive covers hardware going back many years, which is precisely the situation where a manufacturer support page has been taken down and the driver is otherwise gone. Kept on a stick it turns an unknown machine into a working one in the time it takes to run one scan and one reboot, without a network connection existing anywhere in the process.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Complete offline driver archive

Every driver package bundled on the image, so no connection is needed at any stage of the process.

Hardware identifier matching

Devices matched by their actual hardware identifier rather than by model guessing, which is how it names the unknown devices in the manager.

Expert mode

See exactly which package is going to which device, deselect anything you want left alone, and review before a single file is written.

Restore point before installation

A system restore point is created before the batch runs, so a bad driver is undone by a rollback rather than a reinstall.

Legacy hardware coverage

Packages for hardware many years old, which is exactly the case where the manufacturer support page no longer exists.

Run from removable media

The whole thing works from a USB stick with no installation on the target machine at all.

Changed in this build

Version 17.10.14-25060

  • Archive refreshed with current chipset, network, audio and graphics packages.
  • Faster scanning on machines with many attached peripherals.
  • Expert mode list rebuilt with clearer grouping by device class.
  • Reduced image size after deduplicating packages shared across families.
  • Improved handling of machines where a previous failed driver install left orphaned entries.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Write the image to a USB stick of 32 GB or larger.
  2. Plug the stick into the target machine and run the executable as administrator.
  3. Switch to expert mode rather than accepting the default automatic selection.
  4. Deselect anything you do not want replaced, particularly a working storage controller driver.
  5. Let it create a restore point and run the batch.
  6. Reboot and check device manager for anything still unrecognised.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Always use expert mode. The automatic mode installs everything it can, including things that were working fine.
  • Do not replace a working storage controller driver without a reason. That is the one that stops a machine booting.
  • Decline any bundled optional software offered during the run.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it need a connection?
No, that is the entire point of the offline edition. Every package is on the image.
Will it work on very old hardware?
Yes, the archive reaches back many years, which is often the only place a driver still exists.
Can I install just one driver?
Yes, expert mode lets you select a single device and leave everything else untouched.
