EaseUS Partition Master
Version 20.5.0 · EaseUS · Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 + bootable environment · ranked #57 in the library
A disk manager that resizes, moves, merges and converts partitions without destroying what is on them, and clones a whole system onto a new drive that boots afterwards.
Read the installation section below before you start. The order of the steps matters on this release.
About this release
Overview
The built in disk tools will shrink a volume only as far as the immovable files allow and will not move a partition at all, which is why a simple job like giving the system drive another fifty gigabytes usually ends in a reinstall. This tool does the operations properly: resize in either direction, move along the disk, merge two adjacent partitions, split one into two, and redistribute free space across a whole disk, with the data left intact throughout.
Cloning is the other half. Migrating a system onto a larger or faster drive is a single guided operation that copies the partitions, resizes them to fill the target and fixes the boot configuration so the machine starts from the new disk without a repair install. Disk to disk and partition to partition cloning are both available, with a sector by sector mode for the cases where an exact copy matters more than efficiency.
The rest covers the awkward maintenance jobs: converting between partition table schemes without wiping the disk, converting a volume between file systems, changing a dynamic disk back to basic, rebuilding a damaged boot record, checking and repairing file system errors, wiping a drive so nothing is recoverable, and recovering a partition that was deleted by accident. The bootable environment in the archive handles anything that cannot be done while the system is running.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Non destructive resize and move
Grow, shrink, move, merge and split partitions with the data preserved, including operations the built in tools refuse outright.
System migration and cloning
Move a whole installation to a larger or faster drive, resized to fill it, with the boot configuration corrected so it starts.
Partition table conversion
Convert between partition table schemes in place without wiping the disk and reinstalling.
File system conversion and repair
Convert a volume between file systems, check and repair errors, and rebuild a damaged boot record.
Bootable environment
A standalone environment on a stick for operations that cannot run while the system is loaded, including work on the system partition itself.
Secure wipe and partition recovery
Overwrite a drive so nothing is recoverable, or find and restore a partition deleted by accident.
Changed in this build
Version 20.5.0
- Cloning speed improved substantially on solid state targets.
- Partition table conversion made safer with a verification pass before the change is committed.
- Resize operations on very large volumes no longer require a reboot in as many cases.
- Bootable environment refreshed with newer storage drivers so it detects more controllers.
- Operation queue rebuilt so pending changes can be reordered before being applied.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Back up anything irreplaceable before touching partitions. Every tool in this category can lose data if power fails mid operation.
- Extract the archive and disable real time protection.
- Run the installer as administrator and complete setup.
- Apply the included licensing step before first launch.
- Open the application, queue the operations you want, and review the pending list before applying.
- Restore protection, and build the bootable stick from within the application if you expect to need it.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Do not interrupt an operation once it has started. A partition move that loses power partway is the one failure this cannot recover from.
- Operations on the system partition usually require the bootable environment or a reboot into the pre-boot mode.
- Machines on battery should be plugged in before applying anything.
System requirements
Minimum and recommended
| Operating system | Windows 7 through Windows 11, plus the standalone bootable environment |
|---|---|
| Processor | Any x86 or x64 processor |
| Memory | 2 GB minimum |
| Privileges | Administrator rights are required for every disk operation |
| Storage | 300 MB for the application, plus a USB stick if you build the bootable environment |
Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Will resizing lose my data?
- Not under normal conditions, but take a backup anyway. Power loss during the operation is the real risk.
- Can it move my system to an SSD?
- Yes, the migration function handles the copy, the resize and the boot configuration in one guided run.
- What is the technician edition for?
- It is portable and licensed for use on machines you do not own, for anyone doing this as a job.
