About this release

Overview

ArcGIS Pro is the desktop application at the centre of professional GIS work. A project holds maps, scenes, layouts, tables, toolboxes and connections together in one file, and you move between two dimensional maps and three dimensional scenes of the same data without exporting anything. Layers can come from local file geodatabases, shapefiles, rasters, spatial databases or web services, and they all draw and analyse through the same interface.

The analysis side is the reason it stays in service. The geoprocessing toolbox runs to hundreds of tools covering overlay, proximity, statistics, interpolation, network analysis, hydrology, terrain, raster algebra and suitability modelling, and every tool is scriptable. ModelBuilder chains tools into a visual workflow that reruns on new data, and the Python integration means anything the toolbox does can also be driven from a notebook inside the application, with results landing straight back on the map.

Imagery and three dimensional work are first class rather than bolted on. Multispectral rasters, elevation surfaces, point clouds and photogrammetric products are handled natively, with on the fly raster functions so a processing chain applies at draw time instead of writing intermediate files. Cartography gets equal attention: layouts with multiple data frames, dynamic text, map series driven from a feature layer, and export to press quality PDF with layers and georeferencing preserved. This build carries the top licence tier with the extension modules enabled.

Project based workspace

Maps, scenes, layouts, toolboxes, databases and connections live in one project file, so a piece of work opens complete rather than being reassembled from loose files.

Geoprocessing toolbox

Hundreds of analysis tools across overlay, proximity, statistics, interpolation, hydrology, terrain and network analysis, all callable from the interface, from ModelBuilder or from Python.

Two and three dimensional views of one dataset

Switch a map to a scene and the same layers render in three dimensions with extrusion, elevation surfaces and point cloud support, without exporting or duplicating data.

Imagery and raster processing

Multispectral and elevation raster handling with on the fly raster functions, so an enhancement or index calculation applies at draw time instead of producing intermediate files.

Cartographic layouts and map series

Multiple data frames per layout, dynamic text bound to layer properties, and map series that generate a page per feature for atlas style output.

Python notebooks inside the application

Run analysis in a notebook docked next to the map, with results added to the map as they are produced rather than reloaded manually.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Take the machine off the network before starting.
  2. Extract the archive to a drive with at least 40 GB free.
  3. Disable real time protection for the whole install and activation sequence.
  4. Install the bundled runtime prerequisites first if the setup prompts for them.
  5. Run the main setup as administrator and select the extension modules you want.
  6. Launch once so the Python environment finishes provisioning, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

From whoever packed it

  • The licensing service and the portal sign-in component are removed. It opens straight into the project browser.
  • The Python environment provisions on first run and takes several minutes. Do not close the application during it.
  • Extension modules are enabled in this build. Deselect the ones you will not use during setup to save space.

Does it open projects from the older desktop application?
It imports the older map documents and converts them. The original files are left untouched.
Are the extension modules included?
Yes, the extension set is enabled rather than sold separately in this build.
Can it work entirely offline?
Yes for local data. Only web service layers need a connection, and those are optional.
