Version 10.0 · WinDeveloper Tools · Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 · ranked #60 in the library

About this release

Overview

This one is a console rather than a window. It opens as a menu, reads the machine's current state, and presents the methods that apply to what it found. That structure exists because there is no single approach that suits every situation: a retail edition, a volume edition, an office suite install from a particular channel and a machine that a previous tool already touched all need different handling, and choosing wrongly is how a licensing store ends up refusing everything.

The methods differ in what they leave behind. The service based approach installs a licence with a finite lifetime and optionally registers a renewal task, and it works across the widest range of editions. The extended lifetime variant does the same with a far longer interval so renewal becomes irrelevant in practice. The permanent method applies a machine specific record that survives reinstalls of the same edition on the same hardware, and the direct method handles editions the others do not cover.

The menu carries diagnostic and repair functions as well, and they are the parts worth using first. A troubleshooting section reports the installed edition, the channel, the current state and any previous modification, resets a licensing store that a failed attempt left inconsistent, and removes every trace of any method previously applied. Working out what is actually on the machine before running anything is most of the job.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Several methods in one menu

Service based, extended lifetime, permanent record and direct methods presented side by side with the current machine state shown alongside them.

State detection before action

Reports edition, channel, current licensing state and any previous modification so the right method is obvious rather than a guess.

Reset and repair functions

Restore a licensing store that a failed previous attempt left inconsistent, and clear every trace of a method applied earlier.

System and office suite coverage

The same console handles the desktop system and the office suite across several generations.

Fully portable

A script driven console with nothing installed, no service left running and nothing to remove afterwards beyond the folder.

Readable logging

Every action written to a log in plain language, which is what makes a failed run diagnosable rather than mysterious.

Changed in this build

Version 10.0

  • Edition and channel detection updated for the current builds of both product families.
  • Menu reorganised so methods that do not apply to the detected state are hidden rather than shown and failing.
  • Reset function extended to clear state left by other tools, not only by this one.
  • Renewal task creation made more robust against removal by a system feature update.
  • Log output rewritten in plain language rather than raw return codes.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Disable real time protection entirely. A script of this type is flagged on sight and quarantine mid-run leaves the store half changed.
  2. Extract the archive to a folder you control rather than a temporary directory.
  3. Run the console as administrator.
  4. Open the troubleshooting section first and read what is actually installed and in what state.
  5. Choose the single method that matches that state, and let it finish without interrupting it.
  6. Reboot, verify the state from the same troubleshooting section, then restore protection.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Detections are expected and are why this is distributed as an archive rather than an executable.
  • Never run two methods against the same product. Overlapping changes are the main cause of a store that then refuses everything.
  • Read the log if something fails. It names the actual error rather than reporting a generic failure.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Which method should I pick?
Whichever the state readout points at. The permanent method where the edition supports it, the service based method otherwise.
Does it need a connection?
The service based methods run entirely locally. The permanent method needs a connection once to register the record.
Can it undo what it did?
Yes, the reset function removes every trace of any method applied and returns the store to its unmodified state.
