About this release
Overview
Power Data Recovery reads a drive at a level below the file system and reconstructs what should still be there. Deleting a file does not erase it, formatting a volume does not overwrite it, and a partition table that has lost an entry has not touched the data sitting inside that partition. As long as nothing has been written over the sectors since, the recovery rate on all three of those situations is high, and the scan is entirely read only so nothing gets worse by trying.
It works in stages so you do not always have to wait for the slow path. A quick scan reads the file system structures and returns deleted entries almost immediately. A deep scan walks every sector and rebuilds files from their signatures, which is what recovers data from a formatted or badly corrupted volume where the structures themselves are gone. Results appear as the scan runs, can be filtered by type, size or path, and previewed before recovery so you can confirm a document or an image is actually intact rather than recovering four hundred gigabytes on faith.
This package contains the business tier in all its editions, Standard, Deluxe, Enterprise and Technician, selected during setup. Standard covers a single machine, Deluxe adds the bootable media builder for a system that will not start, Enterprise extends coverage across a company's machines, and Technician is the edition intended for someone recovering other people's drives, including from portable media. The bootable builder is the one most people end up needing, because a drive that has stopped booting cannot be scanned safely from the installation living on it.

Bootable media builder
Build a recovery environment on a USB stick or disc and scan a system drive without booting the installation that lives on it, which is the only safe way to handle a machine that will not start.
Filtering and session saving
Filter by file type, size, date range and path, and save the scan result to a file so a long deep scan can be reopened later instead of run again.
Wide file system and device coverage
NTFS, FAT, exFAT and ReFS volumes on internal drives, external drives, memory cards, USB media and optical media, on both fixed and removable devices.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Stop using the affected drive immediately. Every write to it reduces what can be recovered.
- Install onto a different drive from the one you are recovering, never onto the source volume.
- Disable real time protection for the install, then extract the archive.
- Run setup as administrator and pick the edition you need on the selection screen.
- Launch the application, choose the source device, and run a quick scan before committing to a deep scan.
- Recover to a separate drive with enough free space, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Never recover files back onto the drive you are recovering them from. Doing so overwrites the very sectors still holding the rest of your data.
- If the drive is making mechanical noise, stop and image it sector by sector first. Repeated scanning of failing hardware finishes it off.
- Save the scan session when a deep scan completes. Reopening the saved result later takes seconds where rerunning the scan takes hours.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Can it recover from a drive that will not boot?
- Yes, using the bootable media builder. Build the media on a working machine, boot the failed one from it, and scan without touching the installed system.
- Will it recover the original filenames?
- A quick scan usually does, because the structures still exist. A deep signature scan often cannot, and files come back grouped by type with generated names.
- Does scanning make things worse?
- No. The scan is read only against the source. The risk comes from writing recovered files back to the same drive, which is why the destination has to be separate.
