Opera Browser
Version 134.0.5954.46 · Opera Software · Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) · ranked #228 in the library
A Chromium browser with the extras built in rather than bolted on, a proxy service, an ad blocker, messenger panels and workspaces, all in an interface that keeps a lot of tabs manageable.
Read the installation section below before you start. The order of the steps matters on this release.
About this release
Overview
Opera runs on Chromium, so page compatibility and the extension ecosystem are the same as everything else in that family. What it adds is a set of features that most people would otherwise install four extensions to get: a content blocker that filters advertising and trackers at the network level, a free proxy service that routes browsing through a remote server, and a battery saver mode that measurably extends runtime on a laptop.
The sidebar is the organising idea. Messenger services run as pinned panels alongside the page rather than as separate tabs, workspaces group tabs into named sets that you switch between so a research session and a work session do not share a tab strip, and tab islands keep related pages visually grouped as you open them. On a machine where fifty tabs is normal, this is the difference between finding something and giving up.
The rest is standard but well executed: a customisable start page with speed dial tiles, a video pop-out that floats a playing video above other windows, a snapshot tool for capturing and annotating part of a page, unit and currency conversion on selected text, and full import from any other browser including passwords and open tabs. This is the offline installer, so it deploys on a machine with no connection.
What it does
Feature breakdown
Built in content and tracker blocking
Filtering happens before the request is made rather than in a page script, which loads pages faster and does not need an extension kept up to date.
Free proxy service
Route browsing through a remote server with a region choice, useful on untrusted networks, enabled from a switch in the address bar.
Workspaces and tab islands
Group tabs into named workspaces you switch between, with related tabs automatically clustered into visual islands within a workspace.
Sidebar panels
Messenger services, music players, notes and the downloads list pinned as panels alongside the page instead of competing for tab space.
Video pop-out and media controls
Float a playing video above every other window at any size, with playback controls that follow it.
Battery saver mode
Throttles background activity, reduces animation and adjusts video frame handling when running on battery, with a measurable runtime gain.
Changed in this build
Version 134.0.5954.46

Installation
Follow these in order
- Extract the archive to a folder.
- Run the installer, choosing the standard or portable installation type.
- Let it complete, no connection is required during setup.
- Launch it and run the import step against your previous browser if you want your bookmarks and passwords carried over.
- Enable the content blocker and set the proxy region if you intend to use them.
- Set your default search engine and start page from settings.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- The proxy is a browser level proxy, not a system wide one. Other applications on the machine are unaffected by it.
- Portable installation keeps everything in one folder and leaves nothing on the host machine.
- Chrome extensions install after enabling the option in the extensions page.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Is the proxy genuinely free?
- Yes, with region selection but no bandwidth guarantee. It is a convenience feature rather than a replacement for a paid service.
- Do Chrome extensions work?
- Yes, the engine and extension platform are the same.
- Can I use it without an account?
- Yes. Only sync between devices requires signing in.
