Rhinoceros 3D
Version 8.34.26223.11001 · Robert McNeel & Associates · Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) · ranked #61 in the library
A free form modeller built on real NURBS mathematics, where a curve, a surface or a solid is defined by control points rather than a triangle mesh, which is why jewellers, naval architects and product designers all reach for it when a shape has to be exact.

About this release
Overview
Rhino models with mathematically precise geometry. A curve is a NURBS curve with a real degree and real control points, a surface is a genuine analytic surface rather than a dense mesh approximating one, and a solid is a closed set of trimmed surfaces that a manufacturing process can actually read. That accuracy is the whole reason it crossed so many industries at once. The same program draws a ring shank for casting, a hull for a boat, a camera housing for injection moulding and a facade panel for fabrication, and every one of those outputs is dimensionally correct rather than close enough to look right on screen.
What keeps people in it is that the precision never gets in the way. The command line accepts typed input alongside the mouse, so a coordinate, a distance or an angle can be entered exactly while you are still dragging. Construction planes, object snaps, smart tracking and the history feature that rebuilds downstream geometry when you edit an upstream curve all mean a model stays editable rather than becoming a fixed lump. It reads and writes almost every exchange format in circulation, which is why it so often ends up as the translator between two programs that otherwise refuse to talk.
The other half of its reach is Grasshopper, the visual programming environment that ships inside it. Instead of drawing a repetitive structure by hand you build a definition out of connected components, change one number, and the whole thing regenerates. Parametric facades, structural lattices, packing patterns and anything driven by a rule get built there, and the results drop straight back into the model as ordinary geometry. This build installs the full application with Grasshopper and every bundled command present and activated.
What it does
Feature breakdown
True NURBS geometry
Curves, surfaces and solids defined analytically rather than as meshes, so output is dimensionally exact and ready for manufacturing rather than only for rendering.
Grasshopper visual programming
Build a definition from connected components, change a parameter, and watch the geometry regenerate. Parametric and generative work without writing a line of script.
History and editable modelling
Downstream geometry rebuilds when you edit the curve or surface it was built from, so a model stays live instead of freezing at each step.
Wide format translation
Reads and writes IGES, STEP, STL, OBJ, DWG, DXF, SAT, 3DM and many more, which is why it so often sits between two programs as the go-between.
SubD alongside NURBS
Subdivision surface tools for fast organic shaping that convert cleanly to NURBS when precision is needed for the final part.
Analysis and fabrication output
Curvature, draft angle and continuity analysis, plus mesh export tuned for 3D printing and toolpath generation for machining.
Changed in this build
Version 8.34.26223.11001
- Faster display pipeline on large assemblies with many trimmed surfaces.
- SubD to NURBS conversion improved for cleaner transitions on organic parts.
- Grasshopper component library extended with additional mesh and field tools.
- Improved STEP import fidelity on assemblies exported from solid modellers.
- Reduced memory use when working with very heavy imported meshes.
Installation
Follow these in order
- Disconnect from the network before you begin.
- Extract the archive to a local drive.
- Disable real time protection for the duration of the install.
- Run setup as administrator and complete the standard installation.
- Apply the included activation step before launching the application for the first time.
- Open Rhino, confirm it starts straight to a modelling window with no licence prompt, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Plugins from an older release need reinstalling. The plugin folder is version specific.
- Grasshopper is built in and does not need a separate download in this build.
- Keep the update check disabled. A service release can reset the activation state.

Questions about this release
Answered before you ask
- Is Grasshopper included?
- Yes, it is built into this release and opens from the command line or the toolbar.
- Can it open STEP and IGES files?
- Yes, both import and export are supported, along with most other exchange formats.
- Does it need a network to run?
- No. Once activated it runs fully offline and checks nothing at startup.
