About this release

Overview

This is a bootable maintenance environment built on the Windows preinstall platform, loaded with the tools a technician reaches for when a machine will not cooperate. It boots into a full desktop rather than a text menu, so working in it feels like working in a normal system, except that it is running entirely in memory from the stick and is completely separate from whatever is wrong with the machine's own installation.

The tool set is broad and it is why this particular build has such a following. Partition managers from several vendors, disk imaging and cloning tools, data recovery utilities, password reset tools, boot repair tools, hardware diagnostics for memory and storage, offline antivirus scanners, network access with a browser, and a file manager for moving data off a drive that will not boot. Having several tools for the same job matters, because when one refuses a particular drive another often handles it.

Everything runs without touching the machine being serviced, which makes it safe on a system you are only diagnosing. The environment loads into memory, so the stick can be removed once it has booted, and it writes to the target drive only when a specific tool is told to. It supports both UEFI and legacy boot and carries a wide driver set so it comes up with working storage and network on most hardware.

What it does

Feature breakdown

Full live desktop

Boots into a real desktop with a file manager, browser and tool menus rather than a text interface.

Multiple tools per job

Several partition, imaging and recovery utilities so a drive one tool refuses can be handled by another.

Imaging, cloning and recovery

Take and restore drive images, clone to a replacement disk, and recover files from a failing volume.

Password reset and boot repair

Clear a forgotten local password and repair a broken boot configuration from outside the system.

Hardware diagnostics

Test memory and storage health and read drive information from the clean environment.

Runs from memory

Loads into RAM so the stick can be removed after boot, writing to the target only when told to.

Changed in this build

Version 2026.07.09

  • Bundled tools refreshed to their current builds in this rebuild of the environment.
  • Driver set updated with newer storage and network drivers for recent hardware.
  • Added support for more NVMe controllers at boot.
  • Boot menu and desktop layout tidied for quicker tool access.
  • Reduced load time on slower USB media.

Installation

Follow these in order

  1. Extract the archive.
  2. Disable real time protection. Rescue collections are flagged wholesale.
  3. Write the image to a USB stick with the included writer, or burn it to a disc.
  4. Boot the target machine from the stick through the firmware boot menu.
  5. Work in the live desktop, choosing the tool that fits the situation.
  6. Reboot the machine and re-enable protection on your own.
Expect a detection. Anything that changes how a program checks its licence is classified as a risk tool by every scanning engine, which is why the steps ask you to pause protection. If that is not something you want to do, this is not the right download for you.

Release notes

From whoever packed it

  • Detections on the archive are expected for a rescue collection and are about behaviour, not this build.
  • Take an image before any partition operation on a drive you care about.
  • The environment runs from memory, so the stick can come out once the desktop has loaded.

Questions about this release

Answered before you ask

Does it install on the broken machine?
No. It boots and runs from the stick and writes to the target only when a tool is told to.
Why are there several tools for the same task?
Because a drive that one utility refuses will often be handled by another. Redundancy is the point.
Can it reset a forgotten password?
Yes, the password tools clear a local account password by editing the offline account database.
