About this release
Overview
Recoverit is for the situation everyone eventually hits: something important is gone. A file deleted past the recycle bin, a card that reads as empty, a partition that vanished, a drive that formatted when it should not have. Deleting a file usually does not erase its contents, it just marks the space as free, so until something else is written over it the data is still physically on the disk. Recoverit scans for exactly that and rebuilds what it finds.
It works in two passes. A quick scan reads the file system for entries that were marked deleted and brings them back with their names and folders intact, which handles the common accidental delete in seconds. When that is not enough, when the file system itself is damaged or the drive was formatted, a deep scan reads the raw disk and reconstructs files from their contents by recognising the signatures of hundreds of file types, which recovers data even when every trace of the original names is gone.
It handles internal and external drives, memory cards, USB sticks and the storage inside most cameras, previews what it finds before you commit to recovering it, and writes the recovered files to a different drive so the recovery does not overwrite what it is trying to save. This build is activated so there is no cap on how much you can recover.

Installation
Follow these in order
- Stop using the affected drive immediately. Every write reduces what can be recovered.
- Install Recoverit to a different drive from the one you are recovering.
- Disable real time protection, the activation component is flagged.
- Run the installer and apply the included activation step.
- Scan the affected drive and preview the results.
- Recover to a separate drive, then re-enable protection.
Release notes
From whoever packed it
- Never install the tool onto, or recover files onto, the drive you are trying to recover. It overwrites the data.
- The sooner you scan after the loss, the more is recoverable. Continued use overwrites free space.
- A deep scan of a large drive takes time. Let it finish before deciding nothing is there.
